Mineral oil or ester, from neighbourhood substations to industrial sites, the workhorse of distribution, and the core of our offer.
Tell us the product, approximate rating and your e-mail. We will review the requirement and identify any missing information. For voltages, delivery country and project details, use the full configurator.

The core and windings sit in a tank of insulating fluid, mineral oil or ester, which insulates and carries heat away to the radiators. It is the workhorse of distribution: excellent cooling, high overload capability, long service life, and the most economical choice at a given rating. It is the default for outdoor substations, industrial sites and grid connections where fire-safety constraints allow a liquid-filled unit.
| Power | Impedance | Losses | Indicative mass | Indicative footprint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 250 kVA | 4 % | Tier 2 | ≈ 0.9 – 1.1 t | ≈ 1.35 × 0.90 m |
| 630 kVA | 4 % | Tier 2 | ≈ 1.6 – 1.9 t | ≈ 1.60 × 1.00 m |
| 1,000 kVA | 6 % | Tier 2 | ≈ 2.3 – 2.7 t | ≈ 1.80 × 1.10 m |
| 1,600 kVA | 6 % | Tier 2 | ≈ 3.4 – 3.9 t | ≈ 2.00 × 1.20 m |
| 2,500 kVA | 6 % | Tier 2 | ≈ 4.8 – 5.6 t | ≈ 2.30 × 1.40 m |
Basis: mineral oil, ONAN, Dyn11, 50 Hz. Losses per EU Regulation 2019/1783 (Tier 2). Indicative pre-sizing values, exact figures depend on manufacturer and options, confirmed at quotation.
Mineral oil is the economical standard. Natural ester (FR3) and synthetic ester (MIDEL) raise the fire point and biodegradability, often specified for indoor vaults, environmentally sensitive sites and where local fire codes demand it. All three are quoted against your requirement.
Mineral oil is the economical default outdoors. Ester is chosen where fire safety or environmental exposure matters, higher fire point, biodegradable. We quote both against your risk analysis.
Tier 2 as the legal EU floor; reduced-loss designs on request where the total cost of ownership justifies them (heavily loaded, continuous sites). A routine test report evidences the actual losses.
Yes, supplied with routine test report per IEC/EN 60076, EU Declaration of Conformity and full documentation, so it drops into a NF C 13-100 delivery substation.
Examples of enquiry bases for European projects. Ratings, voltage ratio and options are confirmed for your network; these are not stock references or guaranteed datasheets.
| Rating | Example duty | Specify in the enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| 630 kVA | 20 kV / 400–410 V · 50 Hz | Dyn11; ONAN, oil / ester |
| 1,000 kVA | 20 kV / 400–410 V · 50 Hz | Impedance, taps, protection |
| 1,600 kVA | 20 kV / 400–410 V · 50 Hz | Dimensions, losses, cable interfaces |
Quantity, kVA, primary and secondary voltages, frequency, impedance, connection group, delivery country and postcode, required date, and any existing nameplate or one-line diagram.
State copper or aluminium windings, loss and sound limits, protection and monitoring, cable entry and space constraints. The final selection depends on the installation and approved design.
The quotation identifies equipment, accessories, documents, delivery point and Incoterm. Unloading, lifting, installation, site cables, terminations and commissioning must be separately agreed.
15–18 weeks is an indicative target for selected distribution configurations after technical approval and the agreed payment. Availability, shipping and destination determine the written schedule. UK projects: send the DNO specification and 50 Hz network data. US projects: use the separate 60 Hz project page.
The configurator collects exactly the fields that define your unit. First reply within 48 h.
